When Moses said,"Let my people go!" God was dismantling the enemies. He is taking them out of the darkness and bringing them into His light. The process of 40 years in the desert is God's way of removing impurities in us, breaking us in our hearts and in our minds because if we hold on to our mindsets and barriers we will not be able to see the full glory of God. It is our hearts and minds that hinder us from entering into God's full glory.

Whatever that has happened in the OT is a repetition in the NT except that the mediums of communication have changed but God plans are still intact.

During Moses time, there was no internet! God had to show Himself to him using a burning bush. But now we have the internet, at this age, what was previously impossible is now possible. At the click of the mouse, I'm able to view teachings of Benny Hinn, A.R Bernard etc. But God hasn't changed! He is still the same, telling us who are in darkness to come towards Him! Step into His light! Step into His freedom!
